Health Examination for School Entry
A physical exam in order to enroll your child in school is no longer mandatory but recommended. According to the California Department of Education, “it will no longer be a requirement for school-aged children to have a physical exam before enrolling.” However, keep in mind that this does not affect California immunization laws for entering school.
Oral Health Assessment
To make sure your child is ready for school, California law now requires that your child have an oral health assessment by May 2026. Assessments that have happened within the 12 months before your child enters school also meet this requirement. (This assessment does not apply to TK.)
